ART AND DESIGN

At Kings Avenue School, each year group studies one Art and Design unit per term, alternating with Design Technology. Please see long term plan below.

We are working to implement the use of sketch books across the school, as a means for the children to record, collect, develop and refine their ideas as a unit progresses. Each child in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 has their own sketch book, which they will take up with them through the school to show how their artistic skills progress over time.

To enrich our Art and Design curriculum, we also look to make links with local galleries, which provide either educational visits or projects/workshops for our children to participate in. Furthermore, we have weekly Art clubs for Key Stage 1 and 2, which provide our children with further opportunities to develop their talents.

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

Each year group studies one Design Technology unit of work per term, alternating with Art and Design.  These units cover the full breadth required by the programmes of study from the National Curriculum.
